| We are happy to announce a fantastic new wreck highlight in Safaga. The ?El Tor? is a 105mtr. Long passenger ro-ro ferry that is now located in the southern part of Safaga port lying within easy reach of the dive centre with cruising time of just 40 min. Built by ?A/S Bergens M/V of Bergen?, Norway she was completed in 1981 to be delivered to the ?Misr Fedco Shipping Co.Ltd of Alexandria?. She was put into service on the Suez-Aquaba-Jeddah route witch she carry on with until being sold to ?Sayed Nasr Navigation Lines of Alexandria? in 1999. It was after this change of owner that the ?El Tor? was then put at anchor in Safaga where she was scuttled after some time of unpaid harbour fees. The wreck to day is a haven to large schools of fusiliers, yellow tail barracuda, arabian anglerfish, snapper to mention a few. She lies on her port side in 37 mtr. On a sandy bottem. The sheltered location offers protection from both waves and current but due to the location the visibility is less than red sea average. This Wreck is ideally suited for all levels of wreck penetration from simple swim throughs to getting down into the engine room. |
